Extreme Weather Map. Click on a point on the map and interact.

With this week’s crazy flooding in the midwest, I was moved to begin showing global extreme weather events via a map:

While the results at this present moment are a bit raw and thin, I hope to keep refining the data sources for this map, which will continually update. One day I might have a map that truly covers all of the world’s extreme and severe weather.

Today’s post in Andy Revkin’s Excellent NY Times Dot Earth Blog refers to the midwest flooding and shows an amazing animation of stream gauges across the country.
