Mapping the Stimulus Package

111.jpg

Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D, CA-05…Sacramento area) has taken a really cool step towards transparency. She and her staff have been mapping where stimulus money has been going within her district.

As you can see, many green projects, and some that don’t appear to be, are receiving funding.

Perhaps all representatives should follow Matsui’s lead and let the public know what’s going on with the stimulus. What do you think?

  1. The idea of mapping the stimulus money is fantastic and one that should be picked up by all of our reps in the Senate, Congress and state governments. I, for one, do want to see what good my money is going to do for our cities and towns. At least this way I will have some kind of warm and fuzzy feeling when I pay my taxes. Why not get an online letter drawn up to send to our reps?

  2. This is a brilliant idea that should have the force of law behind it. Is anyone else doing it? Do states have other mechanisms for making these expenditures transparent?

We do have a right to know where the money is going. And, If every state had to be transparent we could then see what sort of disconnect–if any–there is between national green rhetoric and local expenditure. That would help EDF and others know what states need even more attention in raising awareness.
